This is one of the more genuinely unusual and interesting reds I’ve tried from Italy. So dark in colour it’s almost black.You hear about wines having notes of blackcurrant, well this has so much blackcurrant you might be fooled into thinking you’ve opened a bottle of alcoholic Ribena! I was suspicious at first. Offering >50% discounts on >£50/b wines…

My 1st case of Super Tuscan Scatanto just arrived. 3 days after ordering. Wow!

How it works: basically disintermediation coupled with opportunistic buying. Winedrops’ edge is primarily upstream: Direct-to-producer / negociant sourcing. They buy direct from wineries, estates, or intermediaries close to source (e.g. negociants).
This bypasses the typical UK chain: importer → distributor → retailer. And Declassified / surplus / parcel buying.

USER EXPERIENCE - The UX is excellent. Intuitive. If you join the low cost annual membership it seems you get 1st access to better deals.

DELIVERY - I got my first case 3 days after ordering.

CUSTOMER SUPPORT - Exceptional. I got my first real-human call after being a bit confused about T&Cs.

Great app and good delivery. Not so sure about the hype on wines. Much ado was made of the Scaranto Toscana, ‘rated 98 points by Luca Maroni’. They must know, as I did upon tasting it, that it’s not in that league. It’s pleasant, and worth the £10 I paid, but there are better value wines at supermarkets on the 25% off offers. So Winedrops is a good service, fun, but exaggerated.
