About Cortese
Cortese is a crisp white grape variety native to Italy’s Piedmont region, most famously producing the wine known as Gavi (or Cortese di Gavi). Revered for its bright acidity, clean citrus flavors, and subtle mineral finish, Cortese has been cultivated in northern Italy since at least the 17th century.
Cortese wines are known for being dry, fresh, and food-friendly, making them a perfect match for the seafood-rich cuisine of Liguria. Though most Cortese wines are meant for early drinking, top producers in Gavi can create age-worthy versions with texture and elegance.
