About Colombard
Colombard is a light, crisp white grape native to France’s Gascony region, where it was traditionally used in Armagnac and Cognac production. Today, it has found new life as a popular grape for fresh, everyday white wines, especially in Côtes de Gascogne, where it is often blended with Ugni Blanc or Gros Manseng.
Known for its zippy acidity, citrusy aromatics, and clean finish, Colombard is now widely planted in California, South Africa, and Australia, where it plays a role in affordable, fruit-forward wines. In many places, it is vinified similarly to Sauvignon Blanc, offering bright orchard fruit and subtle tropical notes.
